Username Registry: a free game about applying rules
Build a username from tiles while the rules stack up. The popular names are always taken.
What is Username Registry?
The office that hands out usernames on Nowhere Social. Build each applicant's username from tiles while the Registry adds one rule per applicant: lowercase only, start with a letter, not taken, no “official”, at most one underscore… and the popular names are always gone.
Username Registry is a free game set in the office that hands out usernames on Nowhere Social, a made-up network. Each applicant gets a tray of tiles: their name, a hobby, an underscore, some numbers.
Build a username that passes every rule in force, then register it. One rule arrives per applicant (lowercase only, start with a letter, not taken, no “official”, at most one underscore, no number at the end), and the popular names are always gone.

What it trains
- Rule application
- Checking an answer against every rule in force.
- Quick logic
- Using a rejection to fix exactly what failed.
Strategy and tips
- Check the new rule
- The new rule is highlighted. It's the one most likely to break your usual pattern.
- Read the taken list
- The shortest, most obvious names are taken first. Add the hobby or “the”.
- Use the rejection
- A rejection says exactly which rule failed. Fix that, keep the rest.
Why play Username Registry?
Forms, sign-ups and checklists all stack rules. Checking each rule in turn, and reading an error message as a clue, saves a lot of retries.
