Privacy & cookie policy

SkillXGames is a free arcade you can play without an account. An optional account (Sign in with Google) lets you earn SkillXP. This page explains, in plain words, what the site keeps about you, where, for how long, and what you can do about it.
The short version
- No account is needed to play. An optional account, with Sign in with Google, keeps the SkillXP you earn and the guides you unlock.
- Most of what the site remembers (scores, nickname, town progress) stays in your own browser.
- A few features need a server: the town chat, friend challenges, invites and likes. They work with a nickname you choose and a random id, not your name.
- Audience measurement (Google Analytics) only runs if you accept it in the cookie banner, where we show one.
- We do not sell your data and we show no targeted advertising.
Who is responsible
The data controller is the publisher of SkillXGames, Angéline Poitout (France), also the publisher of SkillxTube. See the legal notice. Contact: hello@skillxtube.com.
What stays in your browser
The site uses your browser's local storage (not cookies) to remember things for you. This data never leaves your device unless a feature below sends part of it, and you can delete it anytime by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
- Best scores, games already played, daily challenge and IQ Gym history (
skillxgames:best:*,skillxgames:played:*,skillxgames:daily…). - The nickname you typed for the chat, a challenge or a friends link (
skillxgames:chat:name, skillxgames:friends:me). - A random voter id used for likes, votes, the chat and challenges (
skillxgames:voter). It is not linked to your identity. - Town progress: your character, SkillXP, lessons, news read (
skillxgames:town:*), and your friends list. - Your invite code and pending invite (
skillxgames:invite:*). - Small settings: sound on or off, folded chat, the 18+ check of the casino room, likes in The Feed.
- Your cookie choice (
cookie-consent): “granted” or “denied”.
Some short-lived items use session storage and disappear when you close the tab, such as the chat sign-in token and the challenge you are playing.
What our servers keep
These features use our database at Supabase. They work with the nickname you choose and your random voter id; we do not ask for your real name or email address.
- Community town (live rooms): while you are in town, other players see your character, its colour and position. Nothing of this is stored. While you are in town, your browser checks in once a minute with its voter id so the chat knows who is present.
- Town chat: your nickname and messages. Messages are deleted after 1 hour. A message reported by players is kept up to 7 days for moderation, then deleted. Daily counters (slow mode, daily message cap) and bans are kept against your voter id to keep the chat safe.
- Friend challenges: the challenge code, the game, the seed, the scores and the nicknames of the players who entered, so the link can show the board to anyone who has it.
- Invites: your invite code, and which new browsers joined with it, to reward the inviter once per new device.
- Your account (optional): if you sign in with Google, we keep your Google id, first name, profile picture and email address, your SkillXP balance and its history (which game you won and when, which guide you unlocked) and, if you adopt one at the Dragon Nest, your dragon: the egg you picked, the name you gave it, when you adopted it and how many tiles you walked with it in town. We never receive your Google password. When you sign in, we ask SkillxTube (same publisher) whether you also have an account there, sending only your Google account id and the email Google verified; it answers yes or no and since when, so members get a welcome bonus once.
- Rate limits: to stop abuse, some features keep a hash of your IP address (not the address itself) for a short time.
Like any website, our host Vercel processes your IP address and browser details to deliver the pages and may keep technical logs for a short time for security.
Features run by SkillxTube
Some features are served by SkillxTube, our sister site with the same publisher: signing in (for a verified name in the chat), the sponsor logos on game pages, the Golden Book, game likes, the versus board and the feedback board. When you use them, your browser talks to skillxtube.com and sends what the feature needs (your voter id, your nickname, your post). Sign-in is handled entirely on SkillxTube, under its privacy policy. Clicking a sponsor logo goes through a SkillxTube link that counts the click.
Who processes data for us
- Vercel Inc. (United States): hosting and delivery of the website.
- Supabase: database and live rooms (town presence, chat, challenges, invites, check-ins).
- Google (Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager): audience measurement, with your consent where we ask for it.
- Google (Sign in with Google): signs you in to your optional account.
- SkillxTube (same publisher): sign-in, sponsor logos, the Golden Book, likes and the feedback board.
Why we use this data
- To run the features you use (scores, the town, the chat, challenges, invites): needed to provide the service.
- To keep the chat and the boards safe and fair (moderation, rate limits): our legitimate interest.
- To measure the audience with Google Analytics: your consent, where we ask for it.
How long we keep it
- Browser storage: until you clear it.
- Chat messages: 1 hour; reported messages: up to 7 days.
- Challenges, invites and check-ins: as long as the feature needs them. Ask us and we delete the ones linked to your voter id.
- Your account: until you ask us to delete it. Signing out only removes the cookie from your browser.
- Google Analytics data: according to the retention set in our Google Analytics property.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe), you can ask to access, correct or delete your data, object to its use, or withdraw your consent at any time. With an account, write from its email address. Without one, tell us your nickname or voter id (you can find it in your browser's local storage under skillxgames:voter) so we can find what relates to you.
Write to hello@skillxtube.com. If you are in France you can also complain to the CNIL (cnil.fr), or to your own data protection authority.
Children
The games are for everyone, but the chat is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. The chat refuses personal details such as phone numbers and addresses. A parent who thinks their child shared something can write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect changes, we will update this page and its date. For important changes we will ask for your cookie choice again.
