Terms of Service Reading Room: a free game about finding what matters in long terms

Long terms, short questions. Find the clause that answers before the reading room closes.

What is Terms of Service Reading Room?

The made-up apps of Nowhere publish long terms, and people ask short questions about them: how long is the trial, can I get a refund, who gets my email? Open the right section from the contents and tap the one clause that answers, before the reading room closes.

Terms of Service Reading Room is a free game set in the reading room of Nowhere, where made-up apps keep their long terms. People bring short, real questions: how long is the free trial, what happens when it ends, will they share my email, can I get a copy of my data?

Open the section that fits from the contents, then tap the one clause that answers. Filler sections answer nothing, and on Expert look-alike clauses answer a different question. The skill is reading for key information: headings first, then the key word, then the exact words.

Satire
Absurd and warm: every country, office, planet and form is made up, and every run ends on a real admin skill.

+100 per answer found and +10 per question. With a clock, up to +50 more for a fast answer.

Win by finding at least 70% of the answers.

What it trains

Skimming
Using headings to go straight to the right part.
Close reading
Telling the clause that answers from one that only looks close.

Strategy and tips

Heading first
Match the question to a heading before reading any clause: refunds live under Cancelling, emails under Your data.
Then the key word
Inside the section, look for the word from the question: trial, refund, copy, older.
Read it word for word
A clause about the Family plan's trial doesn't answer a question about the normal trial.

Why play Terms of Service Reading Room?

Real terms, leases and contracts are long, but a few clauses carry most of the cost: trial length, cancelling, refunds and who gets your data. Finding those fast is a skill you use for life.
