How the estimate works

  • Real progress means a clear, lasting jump in your usual score on the games of that skill (roughly a fifth higher), measured on the games themselves. How much carries over to daily life varies from person to person.
  • You practise 5 days a week. Fewer days, more weeks.
  • Minutes past 30 in a day count half: focus drops in long sessions, so two short sessions beat one long one.
  • Never under 2 weeks: skills settle with sleep and repeated days, not in one long weekend.
  • Answers are ranges in whole weeks, capped at 26+. They are rough rules of thumb, not a promise.

Questions

How is the estimate made?
From simple rules of thumb: a number of practice hours per skill, five practice days a week, and minutes past 30 a day counting half. The page lists every assumption.
What counts as real progress?
A clear, lasting jump in your scores on the games of that skill, for example your usual score up by about a fifth.
Is it accurate?
It is a rough guide, not a promise. Everyone learns at a different pace, so the estimate is a range of weeks.
