Game clips for TikTok, Reels and Shorts: a starter guide
A good game clip is short, starts with the action and ends on the result. Here's how to get one from SkillXGames to your feed in a few minutes.
Before you press Record
- Pick the network first
- The recorder sizes the video for it: vertical 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, square or 4:5 for the Instagram and Facebook feed, landscape 16:9 for YouTube, X and LinkedIn.
- Use Chrome or Edge on a computer
- They record this tab only and save MP4. On a phone, use its built-in screen recorder instead.
- Go full screen
- The recorder films the game as it appears on screen: Full screen gives the biggest, sharpest picture.
- Close the noise
- Mute other tabs and notifications. Leave tab audio on if the game's sounds help the story.
- Know your moment
- Pick a game you're good at, or a level that ends fast: the best clips show one clear challenge and its result.
Record a clip people finish
Short videos are judged in the first seconds. Start recording just before the action, not on the menu: the countdown gives you three seconds to get ready, so be on the level screen when it ends.
Aim for 15 to 45 seconds: one round, one comeback, one final score. The recorder stops at one minute, which is plenty for a short. End on the result screen (the score or the "What you learned" line) and stop right after it.
- Hook
- First 2 seconds: the challenge. "Can you beat 1,200 on Expert?"
- Tension
- The middle: the fast part, the close call, the near miss.
- Payoff
- The last seconds: the score, the win, or the funny fail.
Format by network
- TikTok
- 9:16. Hook in the first second, add a trending sound in the app if you like (turn the game audio down), 3–5 hashtags.
- Instagram Reels
- 9:16. Pick a cover frame showing the score; keep text away from the bottom, where the caption sits.
- YouTube Shorts
- 9:16. A clear title in the first line of the description: "I beat Ministry of Vibes on Expert".
- Instagram / Facebook feed
- 4:5 takes the most room in the feed; 1:1 is safe everywhere.
- YouTube
- 16:9. Longer stories work: a level from start to finish, with a few words of context in the description.
- X
- 16:9. Short and punchy: post the clip with one line and the link.
- 16:9. Frame it as a skill: what the game trains (budgeting, spotting scams, focus) and what you learned.
Write the caption
Say what the game is and dare people to try: "Spot the scam before it spots you. I got 9/10, your turn." Add the link to the game (or skillxgames.com) where the network allows links: in the caption, the description, or your bio.
Tag what fits the game: #brainteaser #puzzle #memorygame #moneytips #learnontiktok. A few precise tags beat a long list.
Post, then reply
- Download
- Press Download in the preview: the file goes to your downloads folder.
- Or share
- On a device that supports it, Share opens your apps directly.
- Upload
- Open the app, upload the file, trim if needed, add text and sound.
- Reply to comments
- "What's your score?" turns viewers into players: reply with a challenge.
- Post often
- A daily clip of the Daily challenge or the game of the month builds a habit for you and your viewers.
Play fair
Post your own runs. The SkillXGames frame and the skillxgames.com mark stay on the clip: they tell viewers where to play. Don't film other players' names or chats without asking, and keep it kind.
